Panduan Menu MPASI 6 Bulan untuk Bayi dan Contoh Resepnya

At 6 months of age, infants have usually doubled their birth weight and become more active. Exclusive breastfeeding is no longer sufficient to meet all their energy and nutritional needs. Complementary foods, or more commonly known as MPASI, play an important role starting from the age of 6 months. Therefore, mothers must prepare a guide and a list of 6-month MPASI menus to introduce to their little ones.

Signs a Baby is Ready for MPASI

At around 6 months of age, an infant is developmentally ready to receive food other than breast milk. Their digestive system is mature enough to digest proteins, starch/carbohydrates, and fats from foods other than milk. Starting at 6 months, babies can accept and hold semi-solid foods (for example, with a thick porridge texture) in their mouths more easily.

In general, there are several signs that a baby is ready for MPASI, most of which appear around the age of 6 months:

  • The baby has good head and neck control and can sit upright when supported.
  • Starts showing interest in food, for example by trying to reach for adult food.
  • Frequently opens their mouth when offered food with a spoon.

A Proper and Enjoyable 6-Month Infant MPASI Guide

A 6-month MPASI menu needs to be prepared as well as possible by fulfilling the daily nutrition required by the baby to support their growth and development process. In addition to providing the best nutrition, mothers must pay attention to the cleanliness of the baby's food.

Starting at 6 months, babies begin to learn to eat with a complete complementary menu. The Indonesian Pediatric Society (IDAI) recommends a 4-star menu for homemade MPASI, consisting of carbohydrates, animal protein, plant protein, and vegetables.

6-month mpasi menu

According to recommendations from the Ministry of Health, a 6-month-old baby's MPASI requirement is around 200 calories. MPASI for a 6-month-old baby can be given 2-3 times for main meals, and 1-2 times as snacks per day.

For example, when the baby wakes up in the morning, give breast milk or formula. Then, around 7 to 9 AM and 12 to 1 PM, give an MPASI menu with a soft texture like thick porridge. Subsequently, mothers can continue to breastfeed throughout the day and provide 1-2 snacks.

In one meal, mothers can provide 2 or 3 tablespoons for introduction, then increase the portion according to the baby's ability.

Note that the texture of MPASI food must be mashed and strained first into a thick porridge or puree to prevent the baby from choking.

To ensure the little one does not experience any allergic reactions to certain food ingredients, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, introduce new ingredients over 3-5 days and monitor for reactions. If it is safe, they can then be mixed with other ingredients.
